CONNECTION GUIDE / 01

Prepare an SSH connection

Direct SSH has been tested on real hardware. Before you begin, check that you can safely reach the target host.

Core connection verified

What you need

  • Host address: a domain name or IP address
  • SSH port: check the server configuration; the common default is 22
  • Your username and the authentication method provided by your administrator
  • Any network requirements, such as a VPN or IP allowlist
Keep passwords, private keys, tokens, and sensitive host details out of public feedback, screenshots, and logs. Supported authentication methods and interface details will be documented with the public release.

Check a basic connection first

These are standard SSH examples for the macOS terminal, not Docklark installation or app commands. Replace the example username and host with a system you are authorized to access.

ssh user@server.example.com

If the server uses a custom port:

ssh -p 2222 user@server.example.com

On your first connection

SSH may ask you to confirm the host fingerprint. Verify it with your administrator or another trusted source before continuing. Do not skip identity checks just to make a connection work.

If the connection fails

Connection timed out

Check your network, VPN, host address, port, and firewall rules. The target may be temporarily unreachable.

Permission denied

Check your username, authentication method, and account permissions. Do not post authentication details publicly.

Host key changed

Stop connecting and ask your administrator whether the host was legitimately replaced or its key rotated.

If your connection requires a bastion, continue with Prepare a JumpServer connection.
